Understanding and Implementing Behavioral Health in the Long-Term Setting

Nina is currently a Senior Improvement Advisor with Comagine Health. Nina spent 10 years as a state and federal surveyor and was the Social Services Director for 13 years at a 106-bed facility prior to joining Comagine Health.

In this first session, participants will learn about the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) requirements related to Behavioral Health and will also learn about implementing a comprehensive behavioral health program in long term care nursing facilities.

Participants will learn about:

  • Regulations pertaining to behavioral health including F645, F699 and F740, F741, F742, F743 and F745
  • Medically Related Social Services
  • Psychosocial Outcome Severity Guide

the center of excellence for behavioral health in nursing facilities (COE-NF)

Established by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), in partnership with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), the COE-NF offers Certified Medicare and Medicaid Nursing Facility Staff a centralized resource hub with easy access to trainings, technical assistance and additional resources, at no cost.

We help nursing facilities to improve the quality of life and care provided for residents who are experiencing a variety of behavioral health disorders, with a focus on Serious Mental Illness (SMI), Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and Co-Occurring Disorders (COD).
