Stop the Merry-Go-Round: Ways to Help Calm the Mind and Body

This flyer is suitable for sharing and using with residents and staff that are trying to manage anxiety or stress. Grounding is a way to calm worried thoughts by using your five senses. When your thoughts are calm, your body is more relaxed. During periods of stress, you may find your thoughts spinning. When you feel like your thoughts are going round and round, like your brain is on a merry-go-round, try ‘grounding’ techniques to refocus your thoughts.

Established by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), in partnership with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), the COE-NF offers Certified Medicare and Medicaid Nursing Facility Staff a centralized resource hub with easy access to trainings, technical assistance and additional resources, at no cost.
